Types of Plastic - Resin Identification Codes

PDF Print E-mail

Plastic comes in many different varieties and forms. In 1998 The Society of the Plastics Industry created a simple labelling system to make it easier to classify plastic resins. The SPI Resin Identification Coding System still remains the industry standard method of labelling and identifying plastic resins, and has helped millions of consumers, councils and local authorities to sort or identify plastics for recycling.

Unfortunately not all plastics can be recycled, and the majority of UK councils currently only recycle PET and HDPE. At Baylis Recycling we can recycle PET and HDPE within the United Kingdom, and are working on the recycling of PVC and PP. Our UK sorting, washing and processing capabilities help enable Councils and Local Authorities to meet their recycling targets without exporting plastics to the Far East, allowing them to save money in an environmentally responsible manner.
